Light and Shadow in Caernarfon Castle

Caernarfon Castle is an imposing medievil fortress in the north west of Wales that boasts a long and bloody history of sieges and legends. The castle stands on the coast between the mouth of the Afon Seiont river and the Meanai Straight, and when viewed from the outside presents an impressive and daunting sight. On my visit to the fortress however, it wasn't just the brutal beauty of it's exterior that fascinated me. I was captivated by the warren of passages and stairways within the walls of the structure itself. The myriad arrow slits that cover the outer walls allowed for light to spill into the walkways creating an oddly beautiful and unique environment.
